Andy Bowman and Gary Burd have been appointed to senior positions within Caudex Medical

Andy Bowman has been appointed Global Head of Caudex Medical. Andy joins Caudex from the Choice Group where he held the position of CEO of Choice Healthcare Solutions and latterly Vice Chairman of the Choice Group. Andy was instrumental in the global expansion of the Choice medical communications and clinical research business over the past 4 years, particularly in the emerging market regions. Prior to this position, Andy has over 20 years’ pharmaceutical company and agency experience on global and local stages. Having initially qualified as a microbiologist, Andy moved into pharmaceutical sales and then progressed into training, business management and marketing before moving agency-side. During this time, Andy held senior positions in strategic, client service and editorial capacities in advertising, consulting and medical communications agencies.

Caudex Medical has also appointed Gary Burd as Director of Scientific Services, focusing on the development of the Caudex offering and innovation. Gary is joining Caudex from Complete HealthVizion, where he worked for 5 years, initially as an Editorial Team Leader and then a Scientific Director. Prior to this, Gary spent 3 years as an Editorial Projects Manager at Parexel. He brings very strong experience in oncology, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, transplantation and inflammation.

Second EU ISMPP

Alderley Edge provided a great venue for the second European ISMPP meeting held on the 15th and 16th of November. Caudex were present as part of the Complete WorldWide booth, and it was great to see so many clients, acquaintances and colleagues dropping by to say hello. We had an expanded programme compared with last year's European meeting – the focus, however, was still around the themes of transparency and trust.

The keynote speaker Andy Powrie-Smith, Director of the ABPI, Scotland Trust Initiative, spoke of how simply shouting "trust me more!" doesn't work, and described some of the initiatives that the ABPI has been working on to turn things around with stakeholders from outside the pharmaceutical industry.

The second keynote spearker, Ben Goldacre, reiterated all the reasons that trust in industry-sponsored research is so low, and the subsequent panel session discussed what publication professionals could do to improve things, from results posting to full data availability.
